Big Basin - Redwoods State Park

Big Basin is located in south bay and stretches several miles. It has finest redwood forest in the whole world and proudly roots the tallest redwood in California. Big Basin is an easy option of escapade, since its so close to Bay Area. We set of at around noon and took the Sunnyvale-Saratoga road and took a halt at Sweet Tomatoes for lunch. I am not a huge fan of salads, but this place is just awesome. It has some 25 salad options, some 10 salad dressings, 6 variety of soups, 4 choices in breads, tempting deserts and sundaes. And all this is a buffet only for $7.75. Thats what I call awesummm.

Then we reached Boulder Creek passing the beautiful town of Saratoga. The roads are pretty narrow and winding but still maintain a speed limit of good 45 miles/hr. The trees stand so tall, that you feel humbled. The state park has many trekking options, depending on how many hours you want to trek. It also has various campsites, where you can camp overnite and explore the whole of state park.

We set on the Sempervirens Trail which is a 5 mile round trip trail and takes you easily 2-3 hours. The trek was admist dense redwoods with interspersed campsites. We saw many hollow trees. They had become like that due to lighting. The trek went mostly uphill, but we never stopped a second till we reached Semperviren Falls. These falls are 17 feet tall and the water was scarce due to the season. We clicked some snaps and set on our journey back to headquarters.

Now the quest was not yet over , there was more to explore. This time we took another trail called Redwood Trail, which is the easiest and most famous trail. It stretches about 2 miles. This one had no terrain. It was more scenic with The Mother of the Forest, 369 feet tall, the tallest one in the forest on its way. There was also a chimney tree which looked like a chimney when looked above , u could see the sky. There was also Father of the Forest which is widest tree in the forest.

Another thing worth taking a note of is that the park has a campfire amphitheatre made out of redwood and has a caveman like look to it.

Then we set back and decided to stop by Starbucks to grab a shot of expresso. But nature had some other plans for us. There was this beholding scenic site which made us stop. It was like two mountains floating admist clouds.

And what else can be a better end to the day than a relaxing dip in the spa!
